The Waiting Is Not Wasted

God’s delays are not denials. They are divine setups.

What God Builds In You Before the Breakthrough

Have you ever felt like you were doing everything “right” – but nothing seemed to move forward?

You’ve prayed. You’ve trusted. You’ve stayed faithful.

And still, the breakthrough hasn’t come. You’re in the waiting.

Waiting seasons are hard. Especially when you can’t see what God is doing. You might feel stuck, unseen, or even forgotten. But here’s the truth we often overlook:

God does some of His deepest work in the waiting.

God Builds Depth in Delay

Remember the story of Joseph in Egypt? If anyone knew what it’s like to wait on God to breakthrough – Joseph knew.

As a young man he had vivid, God-given dreams. Visions of leadership, favor, and influence (Genesis 37:5-11). But almost immediately, everything fell apart. Betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and thrown into prison (Genesis 39)…

Years passed. Dreams faded. And still, no sign of the promise.

But Scripture never says Joseph became bitter, or blamed God for his troubles. Rather, it says, “The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man” (Genesis 39:2, NKJV). That presence didn’t remove the prison – but it transformed the process.

While Joseph waited, God was building something deeper than Joseph imagined.

He was shaping his character. Strengthening his resilience. Teaching him to lead, not just from favor – but from integrity and trust.

Waiting seasons aren’t about doing nothing. They’re about becoming someone…

What if the “delay” in your life is actually the soil for the growth God wants to do in you?

Remember what James says:

“Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” –  James 1:4

Hidden Faithfulness Honors God

Joseph didn’t need a platform to be faithful. He didn’t need to be seen to serve. In Potiphar’s house, he managed with excellence (Genesis 39:4-6). In prison, he cared for fellow inmates and interpreted their dreams (Genesis 40:5-23). He showed up with integrity and obedience even when it looked like no one noticed, and when circumstances seemed to encourage the opposite response.

But God noticed.

“Your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” – Matthew 6:6

Faithfulness in obscurity is not wasted. It’s worship.

We live in a world that craves visibility. But the Kingdom of God grows in the Secret Place. Just ask David – anointed as king while still tending sheep in the fields (1 Samuel 16:11-13).

There’s something powerful about honoring God when there’s no spotlight, no applause, no guarantee.

It refines your motives. It purifies your trust. And it prepares you for what’s coming.

“Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” – Colossians 3:23

Don’t despise the small assignments. They’re often the very things that shape your heart for larger ones.

God’s Timing Is Always Strategic

When Joseph interpreted the dreams of Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker, he asked the cupbearer to remember him once restored to his position (Genesis 40:14). But the cupbearer forgot – and two more years passed.

Still, God had not forgotten.

When Pharaoh finally had a dream that no one could interpret, the cupbearer remembered Joseph (Genesis 41:9-14). In one day, Joseph went from prisoner to second in command of an entire nation. Not because of coincidence – but because God had prepared him for the exact moment his refined leadership would be needed.

“At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.” – Isaiah 60:22 (NLT)

God’s delays are not denials. They are divine setups.

If Joseph had been released earlier, he may have missed the position God was preparing for him. The famine that would devastate nations was coming—but God was preparing a rescuer.

You may feel like you’re behind.

You may wonder if your time has passed.

But God doesn’t waste time. He uses it.

“The vision is yet for an appointed time… though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come.” — Habakkuk 2:3

Conclusion: God’s Not Wasting This

Friend, if you’re in a waiting season—it’s not because God has overlooked you.

He’s forming you.

He’s planting deep roots.

He’s building something eternal within you.

You might not see it yet. You might not feel it every day. But nothing surrendered to God is ever wasted.

Not the pain.

Not the detours.

Not even the silence.

So keep going. Keep trusting. Keep being faithful right where you are.

“Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord… your labor is not in vain.” — 1 Corinthians 15:58

Because when the time is right, what God has done in secret will be revealed in full view.

And it will be worth the wait.
