“May this testimony bring you hope and encouragement in your own walk of faith.”
— Rebecca Bracey
Last year, my world turned upside down when I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer, a cancer of the uterus. Standing in my living room with my husband Bill, we were in shock. This was the last diagnosis I had expected. But through faith in Jesus, and through prayer and obedience, not only did I find strength to endure, and peace that passed my understanding, but I also experienced miraculous healing!
I want to share my personal testimony of how faith and prayer guided me through this journey, bringing both physical healing and spiritual growth.
The Diagnosis and Initial Response
In December 2023, I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. The news was a shock and not at all what I had anticipated. As my husband and I stood in our living room, stunned by this diagnosis, we immediately turned to prayer, asking for the Lord’s wisdom and guidance. It was on this very day of vulnerability and uncertainty that we experienced our first miracle.
Just a couple of hours after receiving the diagnosis, I got a phone call from a ministry we support monthly. We have been supporting this ministry for years, but never before had we received a phone call from them. It was just like our God to provide exactly what we needed when we needed it. The person calling prayed with me for complete healing and peace through the process, and I felt a sense of calm wash over me immediately!
Faith and Obedience
In the following days, the Lord gave me specific direction. He instructed me to speak the Word over myself daily and to limit sharing the news with others. I shared the diagnosis with my children, assuring them that I would be healed, and with my boss due to the necessary time off. This directive from the Lord was clear: I was to focus on His Word and not dwell on the negative.
Every day, I would speak out loud, “by His stripes I am healed.” This verse from Isaiah 53:5 became a source of strength and encouragement, as well as a declaration of faith. Through all of this, the most important lesson for me was obedience. The Lord had given me clear direction, and my focus was on obeying His instructions. As I did that, walking through this trial became much easier than I thought it would be.
Medical Journey and Miracles
This journey we found ourselves on involved numerous doctor appointments and tests, including a full-body CT scan. My husband and I prayed together before every appointment, trusting in God’s plan and presence. Another miracle occurred when the CT scan results showed no cancer in any other organ – this was a time for praise and gratitude!
Given the diagnosis, the doctors recommended surgery to remove the uterus. After praying, we decided to proceed with the surgery, trusting not only in God’s miraculous power but also believing He would work through the doctors. We prayed that God would isolate the cancer and not allow it to spread. Our prayers were answered as the surgery went well, and the cancer was found to be isolated.
Post-Surgery and Continued Faith
Throughout this process, my husband was a pillar of support, praying with and for me. On days when I had concerns, he would remind me of God’s promises and pray over me. We were very careful about the words we spoke, ensuring that our focus remained on God’s Word. “Faith comes by hearing,” and it was crucial that our words reflected faith and positivity.
After the surgery, the doctor confirmed that the cancer had not spread to the lymph nodes. This was another miracle, as it meant that no chemotherapy or radiation was needed. We were immensely thankful for this outcome!
Returning to Normalcy and Sharing the Testimony
My job was very supportive throughout this journey, allowing me to take the necessary time off. Although the doctor recommended eight weeks of leave, I was eager to return to work after two weeks, feeling strong and ready to share my testimony.
Upon returning to work, I shared my journey with several colleagues, emphasizing the power of our words and faith. One peer, a fellow believer, was particularly impacted by my story. We talked about the importance of speaking positively and focusing on God’s promises. Now, she is mindful of the words she chooses, ensuring they reflect faith rather than fear or negativity.
Lessons Learned
Walking through this journey, the Lord taught me several important lessons. One key lesson was the power of our words. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” We need to be people who speak God’s Word over our lives, our children, our grandchildren, and all our circumstances.
The second lesson was obedience. The Lord gave me clear instructions on how to handle the situation, down to the words I was supposed to say and speak, but it was up to me to obey. Reflecting on Jesus’ life, especially His obedience to the Father, obedience even unto death, I am reminded of the ultimate sacrifice He made for us. His prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane was agonizing, yet He chose the path of obedience for our sake. I am so thankful for His example and sacrifice.
Conclusion
My journey through cancer was marked by the miraculous, the presence of God, the power of spoken words, and the importance of obedience. Through every step, from the initial shock of the diagnosis to the recovery after surgery, I witnessed God’s hand at work.
As I reflect on this journey, I am overwhelmed with gratitude! In moments of uncertainty, remember that God is always with you. His promises are true, and His love is unfailing. By staying rooted in faith and being obedient to His voice, we can navigate even the most challenging circumstances with hope and strength.
May this testimony inspire you to lean into your faith, speak life into your situations, and trust in the miraculous power of God! Thank you for allowing me to share my journey with you. May it bring you hope and encouragement in your own walk of faith.
