A Lesson in Faith and Obedience

A Lesson in Faith and Obedience

God’s power and authority extend beyond our perception of reality. In Joshua 10:12-14, we see the incredible account of the sun standing still at the command of a man. This event has been deemed by historians as one of the most phenomenal miracles in the history of mankind, as it highlights God’s unending love and mercy towards His children. Through this story, we learn that God is the ultimate fighter of our battles, and faith and obedience are the keys to unlocking His power in our lives.

Let’s read this passage together:

Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel:

Sun, stand still over Gibeon;

And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”

So the sun stood still,

And the moon stopped,

Till the people had revenge

Upon their enemies.

Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the Lord heeded the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel.”

(Joshua 10:12-14 NKJV)

The Sun Stands Still

This passage in Joshua 10 opens up with Joshua speaking to God in the midst of a battle against the Amorites. In his prayer to God, Joshua commands the sun and the moon to stand still. As incredible as it sounds, God Himself halts time to give Israel the upper hand in the battle. This event not only showcases God’s power, but also emphasizes how God wants His children to trust in Him fully. He desires that we always have faith in Him, even when the odds are against us.

The account of the sun standing still in Joshua 10 serves as a powerful reminder that God is never too late or too weak to help us overcome our struggles, trials, and obstacles. This miracle was an incredible demonstration of God’s power and it showed His willingness to intercede on behalf of His people when they cry out to Him for help. God still works in miraculous ways today, and He is always willing to help us when we cry out to Him. No matter how difficult our situation may seem, God is there to help us every step of the way.

Relying on God’s Strength

Access to God’s power and strength is not given to us because of some ritual. It’s not that if we say the “magic words” and perform all the “right steps” then somehow we strong-arm God and gain access to His strength. Access is given to the obedient heart who relies upon God and loves Him! All we need to do is to call upon His name, with a pure and humble heart, and He will surely answer us. In Joshua’s prayer, he claims victory over his enemies, and God grants him the victory. In the same way, God wants us to be fruitful and victorious in our lives, as long as we are obedient to His will.

When we are weak, God is strong. When we are humble, God exalts us. When we are sick, He makes us whole! All it takes is faith and obedience. When we decide to trust and obey Him, His power will overtake us and give us the strength and courage to keep going in any situation. We can then face anything with confidence, knowing that whatever the outcome may be, God’s strengthening hand will be there to guide us through. He will never leave us nor forsake us; all we need to do is ask for His help!

His PROMISE is Secure, Even When WE Feel INSECURE

Sometimes, we may feel like we are not worthy of God’s love and mercy. We may think that our past mistakes disqualify us from receiving God’s blessings. However, just like Joshua, if we honor our covenant with God, He will help us attain victory over our battles, even those that were caused by our own mistakes. When we turn to Him and ask for His mercy, He will forgive us and give us the strength to overcome our challenges. With His guidance, we can come through our storms stronger and wiser.

God’s promise is sure: He will never leave us or forsake us. No matter what trials and tribulations we face, we know that God is with us always. We may not see Him in the midst of our struggles (even the ones we brought on ourselves) but His love is ever-present. We can rely on Him to bring comfort during troubling times and reassurance when life feels uncertain.

We cannot fully comprehend the depth of God’s love for us, but it is real and unconditional. We are blessed to have a loving Father who knows our hearts better than anyone else and He will never abandon us when the going gets tough.

Conclusion

God is always ready to answer our prayers and is willing to move Heaven and Earth to accomplish that which is GOOD for those who love Him, as long as we have faith and are obedient to His will. The account of the sun standing still in Joshua 10 is a powerful reminder that God is never too late or too weak to help us overcome our struggles. Let us continue to trust Him fully and hold on to His promises, for He will surely come through for us! Read more about this in my book “Unlocking the Miraculous.”
